Brief Explanation

The main challenge was that there was a limited amount of money to build the entire premises as the Sydney Story Factory is a not-for-profit organisation. Much of our team, our creative directors, architects, builders, construction specialists and the broader production team came on board pro bono in order to make the project happen. Over 50 different companies and individuals donated good or services towards the project. The key objective was to open up a permanent and inspiring place for young creative writers to visit, get free tuition from specialist volunteers and mix with like minded people. As well as generate products that would help fund about 15-20% of operational costs.

The Brief

The Sydney Story Factory wanted to design an inspiring space that could energise their young writers, take them out of their comfort zone and create an inspiring environment to create fantastic stories.

How the final design was conceived

Our production company worked with our creative directors who came up with the brand identity of the Martian Embassy, and then collaborated with our architects on the creation of a spacial design for the martian landscape. Off the back of these things the team created over 30 'Made on Mars' products and martian decor direct for the Red Planet. The writing centre was launched at the end of July this year received national media attention.

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

The launch received national media attention across television, radio, newspaper and online. And our young writers are thoroughly at home in the Martian Embassy - the daily writing classes are totally full. In its early stages (the first month) the shop has sold over 20% of the 'Made on Mars' products on display and has received significant donations from various sources, helping to create new donations and revenue streams.
