Brief Explanation

Dengue fever is now ranked as the most deadly mosquito-borne viral illness in the world. In the Philippines, more than a hundred thousand contract the disease, resulting in hundreds and hundreds of deaths every year. The Department of Health says it’s easy to fight the disease, if only people remember the ways of keeping their surroundings clean, so that Dengue mosquitoes won’t have a place to breed. Thus the Department distributed posters people could bring home and display in their houses to remind them of the steps to prevent Dengue. And this was no ordinary poster. Printed with Citronella, this poster actually drives away the Dengue-causing insect. Brought home, the poster literally keeps the family safe from Dengue.

The Brief

Come up with an idea that will help it the Philippine government’s Department of Health combat the spread of deadly Dengue fever.

How the final design was conceived

Mosquitoes, the carriers of the dreaded disease, are afraid of the scent of Citronella. What if we came up with posters which are printed with that essential oil?

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

The poster was a help in the Department’s campaign against Dengue. In the period after copies of it were released (Jan 1-Feb 4, 2012), the Department of Health's Disease surveillance Report documents that there was a drop in the incidence of the disease by 60%. link : (http://www.doh.gov.ph/sites/default/files/2012DEN5WMR.pdf)
