Brief Explanation

After many years of misplaced enthusiasm with Export Gold, DB Export is now embracing its history and brewing credentials as a great New Zealand beer brand. The history of DB Export is the best story never told. In 1958, the Labour government imposed a cruel tax on imported beer as part of their harsh “Black Budget”. Enter Morton Coutts, a visionary man with generations of brewing credentials and an ingenious streak. As the master brewer at DB Breweries, Morton took on the government with the ambition of brewing an export quality beer right here in New Zealand that would not only avoid the government’s tax, but would stand its own on the world stage as a quality beer. The result was DB Export Beer, released in 1960 and crowned “Best Beer in the World” in 1968. 50 years after its release, DB Export Beer is back! The father of Export Gold, Export Dry and Export 33; DB Export Beer is back to pull in the family and bring thirsty kiwi men back into the DB Export brand.
