Brief Explanation

In March 2011, four YouTube Symphony Orchestra musicians and four contemporary Australian artists were given a unique musical challenge; to create a musical track inspired by their journeys across Australia. Travelling in pairs, they visited the most stunning parts of the country, and despite their very different musical styles, collaborated on tracks influenced by their experiences. A cellist was teamed with a guitarist, a clarinettist with a pop keyboardist, a viola player with a folk singer and a bassoonist with an electro artist. They discovered the remote beauty of Australia, from Kangaroo Island to Uluru, the beaches of Sydney to the city buzz of Melbourne. These unique locations and magical landscapes provided a stimulating backdrop for the musicians to collaborate, compose and write their musical journey. The collaborations resulted in four very different musical tracks, each one reflective of the diversity and beauty of Australia. The final output, ‘Making Tracks’, culminated in four inspiring short films and one beautiful compilation film. For the musicians, it was a journey they would never forget and a musical adventure unlike anything they had ever experienced. For the millions that tuned into Youtube, it was sheer viewing pleasure.
