In places in the Philippines where the poorest of the poor barely eke out a living, social cancers like pedophilia have taken root. Children are bought like slaves by sexual perverts who freely ply their trade. Media has even put a face to these shady operators, and what we see is the typical white trash; lewd, debauched, immoral foreigners out to snatch our children. But what about all the foreigners who give up cozy lives and jobs in their home countries just to help depressed communities here? This story happens in a poor barangay somewhere in the rural Philippines. A sleazy-looking Caucasian prowls the streets searching for victims. A group of naïve kids come up to him and he leads them down a dark alley into a dingy room. We begin to expect the worst, until the Caucasian turns on the lights. He is actually a teacher missionary and the kids are his eager pupils. This Manila Bulletin ad tells us to see things in a different light. Things are not all bad and the news should also portray the good. There will always be bad news in the country. But even so, “There’s good news here."
