The Campaign

Take advantage of the Christmas season's many feasts by launching an anti-indigestion medicine in the midst of all the holiday eating. News of the U.S President Obama snobbing Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's congratulatory call was all over local papers. The agency took the advantage of this by making it seem like Barack Obama has flown in to the Philippines to personally apologize.

Success of the Campaign

After airing the TVC and posting it on Youtube, the ad received more than 200,000 hits in its first week. Major Philippine networks like GMA and ABS-CBN did features on the TVC as part of their coverage of the Obama Inauguration. Soon more blogs followed, and the world took notice. International news networks CNN, MSNBC, Fox news and BBC also featured the commercial as content leading up to Inauguration day - creating unprecedented media mileage for the client that is a first in Philippine advertising history. As a result, sales of Motillium shot up during the post-Christmas season.

Describe how the campaign/entry was launched and executed across each channel in the order of implementation.

The agency placed print ads masquerading as news articles, uploaded videos on YouTube, and posted various blogs to create the impression that President Obama was secretly spending Christmas in the Philippines. After creating buzz, the agency launched a TV ad for Motillium- a motility medicine for indigestion. The story takes place at the Philippines Presidential Palace and features a President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo impersonator hosting a private dinner for the Barack Obama look-alike. President Arroyo offers Mr. Obama one Philippine delicacy after another, which eventually gives him indigestion. She then gives him Motillium, which comes in to save the day.
