Brief Explanation

‘Jogja Hip Hop Foundation’ - the last of four Visual Life profile films promoting Intel’s 2nd Generation Core Processor - presents Indonesia through the eyes of its young, urban, music generation. Founded by Marzuki Mohamad, aka Kill the DJ, the JHF crew are leading modern Indonesia’s resurgence of hip-hop by infusing their tracks with traditional gamelan sounds, and lyrics inspired by 18th century Javanese poetry. The film’s traditional opening notes evolve quickly into modern hip-hop beats. We follow the JHF through their home city of Jogjakarta - jamming with gamelan musicians and shadow puppeteers, creating music videos, and performing live. The cinematography portrays an urban, no-nonsense generation, freed by technology to create music without record label pressures.
