Head into the city on a busy Friday or Saturday night and you’ll see that our behavior isn’t too different to that of migratory animals. We never sit at one pub, house party or even music stage at a festival. We constantly move like a herd with the group as the great migration of the night happens all over the country. "Nocturnal Migration" consisted of 45 VFX shots of fully CG animated deer. The commercial features an integration of fully computer animated deer with real life footage of deer. Executing the idea was more than just bringing a brand icon to life. It was important that people could see themselves in the deer. From heading out for the night, strutting down the street, hitting a busy club or grabbing a kebab at the end of a great night. The commercial features an integration of fully computer animated deer with real life footage of deer. We took a creative approach to this commercial and used motion capture technology to measure real-life movement of deer then applied that real data to the animation of the deer in the commercial in order to animate them in a realistic manner. We captured data in a motion capture studio here in Australia and applied that to the rigging of the animated deer to create realistic animated movement of the animals. We also used 'Massive' animation software technology to create large numbers of animated deer in the scenes that required crowds of deer such as the night club and street scenes. This commercial was all about the combination of real live action, animation and visual efffects. The visual effects elements included rotoscoping and compositing numerous plates. Many elements were added and removed using visual effects in the commercial these included adding animated and real life deer, removing deer handlers from scenes, combing separate plates of deer to become seemless as one, adding antlers to real life deer and many other elements which you can see in the video provided. MAKING-OF VIDEO AVAILABLE.
