Twittcom or Twitter commerce was launched to monetize the over 40,000 followers of Tata DOCOMO on Twitter. It allowerd a user to purchase any service by tweeting the hashtag assigned along with #act. Twittcom would then activate the service by reducing his available balance. More than 5000 customers registered for Twittcom in the first month driving over 10000 transactions with the average value per transaction more than doubled that of a regular customer. This is the world’s first ecommerce platform where payments can be made merely by sending a tweet and has been acknowledged formally by Twitter Inc.
